What if things that go bump in the night include moans of delight from lovers in the throes of passion, not fright?

The horror genre gets a dose of sex appeal as matinee idol Joross Gamboa and controversial chanteuse Mocha team up as lead stars in the exciting new movie, “Sumpa.”

Joross plays a harassed yuppie who takes a vacation in a private resthouse in Laguna where he meets a mysterious lady played by Mocha, whose identity holds the secret to the curse put on the property a generation ago.

Joross is a former “Star Circle Quest” discovery who has become a household name through a number of ABS-CBN programs, including the current telenovela “Pieta.”

After supporting turns in the movies “Can This Be Love,” “D’Anothers,” “Volta,” and “A Very Special Love,” he is thrilled to perform his first movie lead role in “Sumpa.”

“I’ve been waiting for a project like this where I can showcase my acting ability and do something daring,” says Joross, who figures in a number of love scenes in the movie.

“I hope my fans would embrace my role in ‘Sumpa.’ It’s a unique story with a very engaging role for me,” he adds.

Mocha, on the other hand, is making her acting debut in the movie. The caramel-complexioned charmer has built her career on singing, in the last two years as the frontwoman of Mocha, the sexy girl group that bears her name. 

“Sumpa” represents a major challenge for her, not just because it’s her acting debut but also because it required her to disrobe in a few scenes, including a couple of steamy love scenes with Joross.

“Initially, I was very scared when this movie was offered to me,” says Mocha. “But I realized that it’s a great project and an opportunity that I would be stupid to pass up.”

Fortunately for her, her bandmates in Mocha were happy to join her in the supporting cast.

The maiden cinematic offering from Yellow Media, “Sumpa” also stars Mark Gil as Joross’ enigmatic uncle. It is directed by Carlos Agustin and Melvin Brito.
